When Can You Train

Unlike some agencies, CCCSO allows you to:

• Train before or after submitting your CCW application
• Submit your training certificate with your application

CCW instructors must be CA DOJ CCW-certified. Gun Kraft is fully certified.

Note: Gun Kraft will not refund tuition if CCCSO does not approve your application. Be sure you meet their eligibility criteria.

Allowed Pistols and Modifications

You may list up to two firearms on your permit. However, CCCSO has strict rules about firearm types and modifications.

Not Allowed:

• Single-action only pistols (e.g., 1911-style)
• Derringers or derringer variants
• Barrels shorter than 1.87" or longer than 6"
• Calibers smaller than .32 or larger than .45
• Firearms holding fewer than 5 rounds
• Red dots, lasers, or weapon lights

Allowed Modifications:

• Tritium or aftermarket iron sights
• Grip tape
• OEM replacement parts

Holsters

Holster draw is part of the qualification, so bring a proper holster.

• Recommended OWB holsters:
  • Safariland 578 GLS
  • Bladetech Signature OWB Holster with adjustable paddle holster attachment accessory
• Holsters must attach to your belt
• IWB holsters are allowed but must
  • Be rigid (not collapse when empty)
  • No thumb break (these are unsafe)
• No off-body, shoulder, or behind-the-back holsters
• Unsafe, cheap, or floppy holsters will not be allowed
• Tip: If you're unsure about your holster, contact us before class.

Range Qualification

• You must qualify with each firearm you list on your CCW
• Passing score is 70% (126 out of 180 points or 105 out of 150 points for 5-shot firearms) inside a COCOSO-1P target
• Private coaching is available if you have difficulty meeting the requirements

Ammunition

New Applicants:

• 36 rounds for qualification per pistol
• 200 rounds for training

Example:

• Two pistols (same caliber): 300 rounds total
• Two pistols (different calibers): 40 rounds for one, 250 for the other

Renewals:

• 36 rounds for qualification per pistol
